Spooking audiences in London’s West End since 1987, Susan Hill’s eerie thriller The Woman in Black / La Dama de Negro arrives this month to test the nerves of Bogotá theatre-goers. In a Spanish translation by director Rafael Perrín, the audience is drawn into the supernatural secrets of a small English village.
The minimalist Mexican cast – “Two actors and a ghost!” – includes the translator himself. After success in Mexico, Spain and the US, La Dama de Negro makes its Colombian premiere this month at Park Way’s Casa E theatre.
A welcome change from more predictable comedy and drama fare, its play-within-a-play format holds added interest. Do you dare?
